BLUE OCEAN: The Coast Tour

5. Blue Ocean: The Coast Tour

"The ultimate tour for those who want to fill their eyes with blue without sacrificing technical riding. The Blue Ocean is our tribute to the Ligurian coast: an adrenaline-fueled journey that starts from the 1000m peaks of Base Nato and dives literally into the Mediterranean. It’s the tour of endless horizons, where the scent of the Mediterranean scrub blends with the smell of hot brakes.

We’ll start from the high-altitude beech forests and quickly move towards the spectacular coastal plateaus, heading East. We’ll ride the ridges overlooking Spotorno, Savona, and Varigotti, tackling iconic trails that seem to end right on the beach. Here, the terrain changes: you’ll find limestone rock gardens, guided sections through the Mediterranean undergrowth, and those technical passages perched above the sea where precision is everything. You will be supported all day by our VAN or the legendary Defender 4x4, ready to assist you at every stage. It’s the perfect package for those seeking the ultimate mix of stunning scenery and technical performance!"

"Quality, Not Quantity" Philosophy

At MTB Italy, we don’t sell tickets for a crowded bus. We ride in small groups of maximum 7 riders + the guide. This ensures flow on the trails, zero stress, and allows the guide to adapt the lines to the group's level, ensuring a premium and personalized experience.

Technical Details & Requirements

  • Ideal for: Enduro / All Mountain bikes (140-160 mm travel recommended).

  • Required Level: S2 (Intermediate). You must be able to handle your bike safely on Red trails in European Bike Parks and have good control on natural coastal terrain (loose rocks and steps).

    • North American Riders: Ideal for riders comfortable on Blue Square trails with natural rock features.

  • E-bike: Welcome! As with every group tour, we ask that you maintain the group’s pace so we can enjoy the panoramic breaks together.

  • Tour Pace: Remember, this is a guided tour, not a race! We take the time to enjoy the views and descend safely, respecting everyone's flow.

  • Vibe: Epic views, Mediterranean flow, and lots of sea.

Daily Schedule

  • 08:30: Meet at our headquarters in Finale Ligure for the briefing.

  • 09:00: Departure with the VAN or our Land Rover Defender 4x4.

  • Morning: Drop-off at Base Nato to begin the traverse towards the East. The shuttle will follow us all day, assisting with every climb and transfer (a brief effort on the pedals of 5 to 15 minutes might be required to reach the start of some trails).

  • 13:00: Lunch break at a typical tavern or farmhouse with a sea view. Vegan and gluten-free menus are available (please inform the guide during the morning briefing!).

  • Afternoon: We continue the descent towards the coast, tackling the most iconic trails overlooking the Gulf of the Island. The shuttle will remain at our disposal until the final descent.

  • 16:30 / 17:00: Return to base for the final beer, photo/video exchange, and post-ride relaxation.

Trails We Will Ride:

  • Morning: Crestino (part 1 & 2), Supergroppo, Rock dei Croi, Bric Berba, Roaldo.

  • Afternoon: La Rete, La Folia, DH Donne.

If the group is fast, our guide will be happy to add some "secret" variants to the program!(In case of trail closures due to maintenance, weather, or hunting, the guide will choose the best available options).

Useful Info & Gear

  • Lunch: Cost is approx. €18/20 per person (not included). Excellent options for vegetarians and celiacs.

  • Protection: Helmet is mandatory (Open-face or full-face is at your discretion). Knee pads are highly recommended.

  • In Your Pack: Every rider must carry a spare inner tube. We strongly suggest bringing a waterproof/windproof jacket: starting from 1000m at Base Nato, the temperature can be 8/10°C lower than on the coast!
